Wahkiakum HHS wins AAADSW grant; Pathways program serving six clients

Minette Smith, representing Community Services, told the advisory board that Wahkiakum HHS has been awarded a new AAADSW (Area Agency on Aging and Disability of Southwest Washington) grant to support services for residents aged 65 and older. She announced a Living Well event at the Johnson House on May 29, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and said the Hope Center is seeking volunteer instructors for SAIL exercise classes.
Smith also reported the county's Point-in-Time (PIT) count numbers were lower this year but HHS supported five households and seven individuals during the count. She said the Pathways grant program, run by Suzi Mackey, currently has six active clients; it is a six-month grant that could be extended if services are still needed. HHS has also preapplied for two medical transport vehicles to support transit needs.
