Wahkiakum County HHS schedules vending kiosk ribbon cuttings, flags measles cases

Wahkiakum County Health & Human Services staff said two new public-health vending kiosks are now able to dispense supplies to the community and will have ribbon-cutting events: Feb. 26 at noon at the Johnson Park location and March 4, 2026 at noon at the Cathlamet Library location. Chris Bischoff, reporting for Public Health, said funding from the CHOICE Network will help keep the machines stocked but that STI kits remain too expensive to restock at this time.
Bischoff also briefed the board on near-term public-health activities: a group will canvass the county in March to collect ticks for testing and the county’s Environmental Specialist will participate. He reported there are 24 measles cases traced in Washington state, with 22 of those cases among unvaccinated individuals; Snohomish County has community transmission, and Clark County has linked cases without detected community spread. Bischoff added that flu and other respiratory illnesses are peaking later than usual as of February 2026.
