The board approved a budget amendment to appropriate $232,000 in fund balance to purchase two parcels (nearly six acres) on Recycle Road in Clyde from BV Hedrick Gravel and Sand Company. Deputy County Manager Chris Boyd said the county had held a lease for the Jones Cove Convenience Center and the parcels adjoin county property near Murph (Murray Fides Park area), providing opportunities for future expansion.
"We're very fortunate, I think, to get that property that joins that facility," a commissioner said, and the board voted to approve the purchase by voice vote. Boyd said the offer came before the owner listed the land on the open market, and the county had previously cleared and evaluated the parcels for potential use.
