Mercer County Board approves consent agenda, multiple claims and adopts rezoning ordinance; tax-abatement proposal tabled

The Mercer County Board met Feb. 4, 2025, and approved its consent agenda, including minutes for general business, finance, public health, transportation, animal control, zoning and law enforcement, on a motion by Gary Gregg and a second from Chris DeMink; the vote was recorded as 9-0.
Board members then approved February claims and the February HRA on motions moved by Linda Koepke (seconded by Tim Arbet for the claims and by Todd Line for the HRA), each passing 9-0. Separately, the board adopted Ordinance 2025-01 to rezone a parcel owned by Jon Gochee from AG-1 to R-1 at 2641 85th Ave, Viola, IL 61486; Gary Gregg moved adoption, Todd Line seconded, and the measure passed 9-0.
A separate resolution proposing a tax abatement was presented but was tabled after a motion by Chris DeMink and a second by Gary Gregg; the board voted unanimously to send the proposal back to Economic Development for revision before it returns to the full board. The meeting record also shows the board accepted the resignation of Chris DeFrieze (motion by Gary Gregg, seconded by Steve Moreland) and approved committee assignments (motion by Gary Gregg, seconded by Linda Koepke), both by 9-0 votes. The board appointed Robert Hoffman to the Board of Commissioners for the Mercer County Housing Authority (motion by Rebecca Hawn, seconded by Steve Moreland), also 9-0.
No public comments were recorded. The board moved into a closed session for personnel matters under the statutory citation 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) and later reconvened and adjourned. The next general meeting was announced for March 4, 2025.
