The Pahrump Off Highway Vehicle Park Advisory Committee on June 4 reviewed a high contractor bid for the planned track and discussed plans to rescope and rebid the project.
"High bid originally, BOCC to hear the item and reject this month. Request to rescope the definition of the project and rebid at that point," Debra Strickland said, reporting staff direction to the Board of County Commissioners. Committee member Jimmy Lewis said he spoke with the Nevada Commission on Off-Highway Vehicles and Stephanie Urga and proposed that "volunteers use the $88,000.00 to build the track with guidance from a professional track building consultant," suggesting the committee build a budget that covers equipment and fuel costs.
Members raised questions about the long-term requirements to run and maintain a volunteer-built track. "Asked about equipment for running the track on an ongoing basis," said Joe Steidl, prompting discussion of possible grant rounds and fairgrounds charge-backs as funding sources. The committee did not take a final action on the construction approach; staff and the BOCC process for rebidding remain the immediate next steps.
