Airport apron, PAPI and AWOS projects advance; grant easement near finalization

City Engineer Glenn Davis said the Wadsworth Municipal Airport apron electrical design and FAA coordination are nearly complete with summer construction targeted; trees obstructing a PAPI glide path were removed; and an easement for an FAA grant to design an Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) is expected to be signed imminently to permit grant application.
City Engineer Glenn Davis updated the Committee on airport projects in three brief items: the Apron Project’s electrical design is nearly finished after consultation with the FAA and construction is expected this summer; the Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) project required tree removals, which were completed ahead of the Indiana bat deadline; and the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) grant application requires a signed easement from a private property owner, which Davis said had been finalized and awaited the owner’s signature to allow grant application and design work to proceed.
On the PAPI timeline, Davis said obstruction removal had been completed and the project remains on schedule to finish toward the end of this year or the beginning of the next year. For the AWOS grant, Davis requested Committee authorization to enter into a grant agreement with the FAA and noted staff were seeking Council authorization to apply once the signed easement is in hand.
