During public comment several residents raised service concerns tied to refuse and recycling and called on the city to press the contractor for better performance.
Rommel Echan said Republic Services has missed green-waste pickups, describing it as a recurring problem: "they miss my green waste pickup... it's gotten worse." Judith Hana noted recycling service has lacked consistency since a sorting facility fire and asked whether recycling is included under the current contract; staff confirmed recycling and green waste are part of the contract and said the contractor is meeting diversion-rate requirements cumulatively. Staff reminded residents to report missed pickups so staff can track performance and pursue remedies with the contractor.
Separately, a council member reported four checks stolen from a local mailbox in April and May and urged staff to investigate possible inside-the-mail-system theft patterns; the council directed staff to gather information and report back.
Council asked staff to continue compiling complaints and to include performance and enforcement steps in future staff reports.
