City awards 2026 SIP paving contract; Woodlawn Cemetery alternate pricing higher than estimate

City Engineer Glenn Davis reported Melway Paving was the low bidder for the 2026 Street Improvement Project and that the contract includes an alternate to perform paving work at Woodlawn Cemetery at the Cemetery Board's request. Davis said the engineer's estimate for the Cemetery work was about $151,500 but the alternate pricing returned at $192,262; the Cemetery Board will meet next week to decide which alternate areas it wishes to fund and then reimburse the City for that portion of the contract.
Assistant Director Bellack added street maintenance and storm sewer catch‑basin rehabilitation work in the cemetery area was underway so that paving could be staged efficiently; Davis said the paving contract has an emergency clause consideration in the legislation to allow timely execution once the Cemetery Board identifies its scope.
