Friedt Park nears completion; field lights to be energized ahead of May 3 softball game

Assistant Public Service Director Jon Bellack said contractor crews completed underground utility hookups and poured the last sidewalk connecting the pavilion to a new restroom, and that the park’s new field would be lit in time for the league opener. “The field had begun to be used,” Bellack said, noting a lacrosse team practiced on the surface and staff were finishing grading and seeding around the perimeter.
Public Service Director Matt Hiscock told the Committee the low bid for a related parking‑lot package was $328,422, which exceeded the original $300,000 line but contained approximately $30,000 in allowances and other optional line items. Hiscock said the project’s substantial‑completion date of June 30 aligns with an ODNR reimbursement of about $122,000 that would reduce net cost. Committee members asked about schedule and budget flexibility; Hiscock said ODNR had been flexible in past reimbursements provided substantial progress was shown.
