Police cite traffic data, step up enforcement at Smokestack construction

Police Chief Odis Rogers told the Olmsted Falls City Council on April 28 that data from the city's contracted traffic monitoring program showed the 85th percentile speed on Cranage was 23 mph and the 95th percentile 24 mph, suggesting a volume issue rather than widespread speeding.
Rogers said Lindbergh showed an 85th percentile of 40 mph in a 35 mph zone and that the data include time-of-day breakdowns that will guide targeted enforcement. He described steps taken at the Smokestack development after resident complaints: officers have been sent to warn crews about the city's construction start times, and a supervisor was cited for a noise violation. Rogers noted the ordinance sets permitted start times as "Monday through Friday 7:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday 9:00 AM" and cautioned that because some new streets are not yet dedicated, overnight parking citations may require HOA permission; hydrant and driveway-blocking violations can still be enforced.
Rogers also updated council on personnel: a newly sworn officer from Wellington begins the next pay period and is expected to complete a shortened field-training period and be on solo patrol in a couple of months. He said other candidates are at conditional-offer or psychological-evaluation stages.
