Fire chief: new engine back, training next; council approves vehicle and generator labor costs

Interim Fire Chief Randy Kimbro told council the new fire engine has returned with hand tools and basic equipment mounted and that crews will begin orientation and driving practice before placing the apparatus into service.
"We are expecting mid-May possibly later in May that the vehicle will then be placed into service," Kimbro said, adding that personnel must complete training before they work on shift. Council approved a requisition to W.W. Williams to cover generator installation labor costs ($10,292.22) and approved purchases for a 2026 F-250 truck with upfit ($72,116.76) and a command vehicle and upfit ($52,476.79). All motions passed on recorded polls (7 ayes, 0 nays).
Kimbro said one previously retired vehicle was sold on govdeals and that the new F-250 would be nearly road ready upon delivery but will require radio installation. The actions authorize procurement and equipment upfitting and set the departments' schedule for training and installations.
