Sheridan County repeals seldom-used property tax deferral program

The board voted 4–1 to repeal the county’s property tax deferral program after the county assessor said only one person used it prior to 2000 and newer relief programs have reduced demand.
Sheridan County commissioners voted April 7 to repeal the county’s rules and regulations governing a property tax deferral program. County Assessor Koko Knudtson told the board the program had seen minimal uptake—one participant prior to 2000—and that newer relief programs reduce the need for a deferral that carries repayment with interest.
Commissioner Holly Jennings said she would prefer to keep the program available to help even a single qualifying homeowner, but Commissioner Lonnie J. Wright moved to repeal the program. The motion passed 4–1, with Jennings recorded as the lone dissenting vote.
