Hawkes said the original warrant language did not specify whether lettering would be mounted on the building, a plaque would be used, or whether funding had been identified; she asked the board how to proceed.
“...the war article stated, voting to name the fire depart or the new fire station after former fire chief Dan McDonald, and it passed. However, my wording was terrible,” Hawkes said, asking for guidance on lettering, plaques and whether another warrant article is needed. Board members recommended creating a small committee that would include town staff and a representative of the governing body for the fire department to draft specific designs, placement and a funding plan. Members cautioned about voiding the building warranty if letters are stud‑mounted and suggested non‑penetrating options (tape or paint) as alternatives. Hawkes agreed to organize the first committee meeting and report back to the board.
