Gillespie told the board the Highway Department performs work at Department of Natural Resources-owned Lake Traverse accesses but "the County is not reimbursed for pulling docks in and out at the DNR owned accesses, time spend repairing docks, or repairing ice heaves during the winter." He also said spring weight restrictions will begin Friday March 6, advice that will affect commercial and agricultural traffic on county roads during thaw conditions.
Commissioners flagged the hiring request as a routine personnel authorization; the board approved it without dissent. The Highway Department's note about unreimbursed DNR-access work was presented as operational context, and Gillespie did not request additional funding at the March 3 meeting. The commission did not set a separate timeline for filling the seasonal positions at the meeting.
