Board accepts four school grants and appropriations, including $176,180 state retention bonus

The Amelia County Board of Supervisors approved four school appropriations presented by school officials on May meeting night, accepting the awards as a block.

Mr. Trump, who presented the April financial reports, outlined the four requests: a $176,180 state-funded one‑time bonus payment intended to promote retention among instructional and support positions; a $351.06 federal Perkins reallocation to strengthen CTE equipment purchases; $6,727.68 in federal reallocated funds for continuing grant work with NIET; and a $100,000 Title I school improvement award. "For your approval this evening is a request for the appropriation of a $176,180 in state revenues and expenditures supporting the one‑time bonus payment to promote retention," the presenter said while summarizing the requests.

Board members moved and approved all four appropriations together after a short discussion; staff confirmed none of the four required a local match. The Title I funds and Perkins adjustments carry specific encumbrance and expenditure deadlines noted by school staff: Perkins funds must be encumbered by June 3 and expended by Sept. 30, 2025, and the Title I award has an obligation date of Oct. 2, 2025. The board’s approval authorizes staff to accept and appropriate the funds and proceed with planned expenditures for retention bonuses, CTE equipment and summer professional learning.
