Webster board approves auditor RFP; mayor recommends financial consultant to aid transition

Mayor Tracy Rodes told commissioners the town prepared an 11-page draft request for proposals for auditors and intends to solicit proposals in advance of its April 2 business meeting. She said some audit tasks can be assigned to auditors or to a financial preparer and that town staff typically perform certain finance functions.
Rodes suggested hiring Bronwyn Burleson as a consultant to assist with year-end financial preparations and the Management’s Discussion and Analysis during the transition; the minutes state "Bronwyn’s hourly rates are $150/hr and she estimated that it would take her about 8 hours to prepare for the audit." Commissioners approved sending the RFP to prospective auditors and set a schedule: Stephanie Gibson and Mayor Rodes will review proposals and send the board a recommendation by March 28 to allow selection at the April meeting.
The motion approved issuing the RFP; no auditor was selected at the Feb. 5 meeting and no contract with Bronwyn Burleson was finalized. The board recorded the need to know projected costs to inform FY 2025-26 budgeting and to start the proposal process promptly.
