The Cardell Select Board approved multiple volunteer appointments at its July 28 meeting and discussed steps to reduce administrative friction so terms do not lapse unnoticed.
Board members individually moved to appoint Sarah Wengert to the Recreation Commission (term to 06/30/2029), Chrissy O’Shea and Sylvia Willard to represent their bodies on the Community Preservation Committee (terms to 06/30/2027), and to fill safety‑committee seats, reappointing Valerie Thaddeus for a three‑year term and appointing Eric Ballas as the ESC representative to the safety committee for a one‑year term. Motions were seconded and approved by voice vote.
Several members and staff described a recurring pattern in which committee members’ terms lapse without notice. One speaker suggested automating reminders to volunteers and staff so appointees receive email alerts before a term expires. The board asked liaisons to reach out to interested residents who had flagged an interest in serving on committees and encouraged committees to advertise openings to maintain quorums.
