"We have closed off the GPED application, period. ... We have more requests the for funding than funds available," Cameron said, and asked whether the board wanted to interview applicants or rely on written applications.
Commissioners split on the utility of interviews. One member argued applications should suffice but asked that applicants be available on the agenda day to answer questions, while another said an interview process can help the board avoid a broad-strokes 'blank-check' allocation and recommended more time for review if binders are distributed. Cameron said draft budgets must be to the clerk by the 28th of the month and suggested placing application review on the regular meeting calendar or calling a special meeting if needed. He also proposed quarterly reporting by grantees as a future accountability measure.
