On April 20, 2026 the Maui County Commission on Children and Youth unanimously adopted five long-term goals for 2026. Chair Cayla Kutaka moved to solidify goals including building youth voice, building community voice, building understanding in advocacy, increasing safety for children and youth, and sustained action; Vice Chair Paul Tonnessen seconded and the motion passed (6-0; 1 absence; 2 vacancies).
Members discussed aligning the goals with the Maui County Early Childhood Resource Center's 2025 data walk and with ongoing county, state and federal initiatives. Commissioners also agreed to survey older youth directly to gather input on priorities and participation methods.
