Mary Richthammer read Article 4, which asks voters to appropriate $12,000 to the Rutland County Sheriff's Department for policing services. Jeanne Kirbach asked whether the $12,000 represented the only cost associated with sheriff services.
Nathan Hewitt explained that the $12,000 had been removed as a line item from the general budget and was placed on the warning as a separate article for voter consideration. He added that the number of sheriff hours the town receives is limited and depends on the department's hourly rate.
The article will be decided by voters at the upcoming town vote; no further public comment was offered at the informational meeting.
