Randolph County Commission declines changes to Unsafe Buildings and Land Ordinance

The Randolph County Commission reviewed the Unsafe Buildings and Land Ordinance and, after consulting with the prosecuting attorney and ordinance members, decided not to make changes at this time. Commissioner Chris See said he initially disliked some provisions but that the ordinance now "seems to be working out fine," and Commissioner David Kesling said the program has produced positive outcomes including funding to remove derelict properties.
Commissioner Kesling moved to leave the ordinance unchanged and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioners noted the ordinance has allowed the county to take down hazardous structures and clean up properties but that further amendments could be considered later if necessary.
