Randolph County approves two 911 hires as director warns of retention pressures

The Randolph County Commission on Aug. 15 approved hiring two new staff at the county 911 center following a report from 911/OEM Director Michael Miller on recent recruiting activity. Miller told commissioners that "they conducted interviews on Monday August 12 of six candidates and they chose two to hire," and recommended starting Leann Givens and Montana Darlington at $13.00 per hour with a one-year probationary period and a Sept. 3, 2024 start date; the motion to hire passed unanimously.
Miller also warned the board that the center is experiencing turnover driven by pay competition. "We have more people that work at the 911 Center that are looking for jobs elsewhere for better paying jobs," he said. The director said staff will meet with partners ahead of the Mountain State Forest Festival to define emergency roles and that the county will review a demonstration from Frontier on a potential new phone system, steps officials said are meant to maintain service as head count shifts.
