Webster leaders discuss sewer bore, DOT safety idea and environmental review for Webster Village

Mayor Tracy Rodes said a recent infrastructure meeting discussed a potential sewer connection requiring a bore under South River Rd. that would need right-of-way from two property owners outside the town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. She said DOT staff Chris Lee and Cody Weddle indicated they will look for ways to make River Roads safer during detours for the Hwy. 107 construction and suggested allowing only a right turn toward Cullowhee at the South River Rd. intersection to reduce risk, a change Rodes said “would make it much safer.”
Commissioner Danell Moses reported that Western and Mountain Projects are coordinating with an environmental group to address the presence of protected Great Blue Herons that nest at the proposed Webster Village affordable housing site in Little Savannah. Commissioners also discussed volunteer coordination for community projects, a planned Mayday event on May 4, and a budget planning meeting set for March 28.
No formal vote was taken on the sewer connection or traffic changes; the items were reported as ongoing coordination with DOT, property owners, and outside partners.
