Mayor reports community updates; town remembers longtime resident Joe Rhinehart

Mayor Tracy Rodes used the administrative report portion of the Jan. 8 meeting to brief the board on several town matters. She said the town sent approximately 20 holiday cards to associates and board members, purchased three gift certificates for traffic patrols and the town clerk, and that the newly arrived Brother printer has been set up and tested by the town clerk. Rodes also reported that Adrienne at Blue Ridge Rentals said she could handle installing wireless door keypads and that she will pack away the Town Hall Christmas decorations.
Mayor Rodes informed the board of the passing of Joe Rhinehart on Dec. 8, 2024, and cited a Sylva Herald obituary and an archival audio interview that contains local history. She also reminded the board that county property revaluations will be completed soon and that there will be a short appeal window for property owners. Commissioner Brandon Core reported on the Historical Society's Christmas caroling (about 35 participants) and noted the society's next meeting is Jan. 22, 2025; Commissioner Danell Moses announced the Solid Waste Committee will meet Jan. 13, 2025.
