County tax collector Sebastian Cotheran presented the 2024 settlement of collections, reporting a net levy of $52,207,131 and collections of $51,182,005.56—"for a collection rate of 98.04%," he said. As of June 30, Cotheran reported a remaining balance of $1,024,575. He told commissioners the office completed 580 enforcement actions for the year and said roughly 278 payment plans and 155 ACH enrollments were active during the year.
Several commissioners asked whether the decline from prior years was flood‑related; Cotheran said the county's collection rate is down slightly from the prior year but remains one of the highest on record given recent storm impacts. He described the tax office's willingness to work with residents on payment plans and advance ACH arrangements and said enforcement actions can be stopped if taxpayers communicate and set up arrangements.
