Commissioners heard that foster care and public-safety needs are among the largest expenditure pressures in the recommended FY2025-26 budget.
On questioning, the county manager said the county's share of the foster-care increase is $172,513. He also told the board that public-safety is the largest functional line in expenditure increases and that the budget includes funding for recovery-court costs (about $140,000), vehicle replacements and the first full year of principal and interest on jail expansion debt.
The manager said foster-care costs have steadily risen over recent years and that the proposed budget includes about $1,036,000 related to foster care in the general fund, with roughly $172,513 funded locally. Commissioners emphasized preserving COLA and merit increases for employees amid tight budgets.
