Long Prairie council adopts hiring and retention bonus for new police officers

The Long Prairie City Council on Jan. 8 adopted Resolution No. 25-01-08-02 establishing a hiring and retention bonus for newly hired police officers. The program pays $2,500 on the first anniversary of employment and an additional $2,500 on each anniversary up to the fourth, for officers POST-certified in Minnesota for less than six months prior to hire.
Council member Clint Krueger moved to adopt the resolution; the motion passed on a roll call with Kreemer, Gripne, Schroeder and Krueger recorded in favor. The minutes state that two officers currently qualify under the program: Melissa Morazan and Jeremy Puff. The resolution specifies the program applies to officers who started between April 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2024, and that all payout amounts are gross.
