Randolph County appoints Heather Brown to Opioid Board and approves purchases for EMS

The Randolph County Commission voted Dec. 5 to appoint Heather Brown to the county Opioid Board for a one-year term ending Dec. 5, 2025 and to approve three purchases from the county's opioid funds.
Commissioner David Kesling moved to approve Heather Brown's appointment after the Opioid Board recommended her to represent Randolph County EMS; the motion passed unanimously. Commission President Chris Siler described the planned purchases: 13 medic safes for ambulances, 10 LUCAS mechanical CPR devices and a county share of paving at the Elkins Little League area. "These are safes where medication is stored and they will not have a key, they will work off of biometrics and the EMS Director will be alerted when the safes are opened," Siler said.
The approved allocations were $33,669.00 for the medic safes, $14,639.43 for 10 LUCAS units and $30,533.70 for the county's half of the paving, with the City of Elkins paying the other half. Kesling moved to approve all three allocations and the commission voted all yes.
The commission recorded the appointments and purchases as formal motions; funds for the purchases were identified from the county opioid allocations. The appointment and spending are effective immediately and will be overseen by the Opioid Board.
