Finance Committee holds firm at $350,000 for Emergency Management Building after GenGov bids exceed estimates

The committee reviewed competing cost estimates for a planned Emergency Management Building and declined a GenGov request to increase funding. Minutes show design-and-build proposals first came in at $519,000; a later engineer-led RFP returned several proposals near $460,000 and GenGov asked Finance to consider boosting the funding to $460,000 after rejecting all bids.
Supervisor John Pedretti told the committee he is "convinced this building can be built for the $350,000 already approved," and Supervisor Lorn Goede agreed. After discussion the Finance Committee held firm at the $350,000 appropriation and indicated it would include $40,000 from HazMat funds toward the project. Phil Hewitt was identified as the staff person tasked by GenGov to revise plans and save costs.
