The Long Prairie City Council approved the police department’s request to hire part-time Officer Lateshia Harden as a full-time officer effective Feb. 1, 2025.
"A motion was made by Council member Schroeder to approve the hiring of Lateshia Harden as a full-time police officer as of February 1st, 2025 and to not go through the interview process since she is currently a part-time officer," the minutes record. The motion was seconded by Council member Krueger; roll call was Kreemer — Yes; Gripne — No; Krueger — Yes; Schroeder — Yes. The motion passed.
Chief Ryan Hanson told the council the department had about 200 calls over the past two weeks (about 14 per day). He also reported the 2021 squad vehicle returned after transfer case/transmission repairs but still requires a motor mount replacement when parts arrive. Administrative staff member Deanna completed several trainings, including BCA-MNJIS and Digital Evidence Management, and the department received four applications for the full-time vacancy; Chief Hanson recommended hiring Harden and offering two applicants part-time positions pending screening and certification.
