Randolph County sets $300 bond for recounts as commissioners canvass Nov. 5 results

The Randolph County Commission convened a special session Nov. 12 at the Wees Annex to canvass the Nov. 5 general election results and set the procedure for any recounts. Commissioner David Kesling moved to "set the bond amount at $300.00 if anyone would like to request a recount," and the motion passed unanimously.
The commission recorded attendance, drew Precinct 165 for a hand count, and reviewed absentee and provisional ballots across precincts. County Clerk Brenda Wiseman explained when specific absentee ballots arrived and how staff handled emergency ballots delivered to a Buckhannon hospital on Election Day. Commissioner Kesling later moved to declare the results at 1:56 p.m., triggering the 48-hour window for recount requests that Wiseman described as the statutory period the county follows before final certification by all counties is complete. The commission recessed to await any recount activity and reconvened on Nov. 21 to certify the results.
