Randolph County adopts resolution opposing National Radio Quiet Zone restrictions

Randolph County commissioners on Sept. 19 unanimously adopted a resolution opposing continued intervention by the National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ) and requesting either dissolution of the NRQZ or total waivers for public‑safety radio bands, commercial cellular bands and commercial satellite internet providers across the zone.
Michael Miller, 911/OEM Director, told the commission "they are hoping to get the National Radio Quiet Zone lifted," saying NRQZ restrictions have forced the county to build a larger number of tower sites and have hampered emergency communications. The resolution directs county officials to convey its opposition to members of Congress and the Executive Branch and takes effect immediately upon adoption.
Commissioners said the resolution reflects long‑running concerns from local emergency services about signal limitations and unfunded costs associated with maintaining coverage within the NRQZ.
