Randolph County approves two telecommunicator hires and hears 911 center infrastructure concerns

Michael Miller, Randolph County 911/OEM Director, told commissioners the 911 Center continues to experience roof leaks that require repairs; he said Duarte's Roofing of Clarksburg will return to address the issue. Miller also reported on a Frontier demonstration of new phones and meetings with statewide amateur radio groups to develop a contingency talk group if radio communications fail.
The Commission approved Miller's personnel requests: Abby Grimmett was hired as a full-time telecommunicator trainee at $13.00 per hour with county benefits and a 12-month probationary period, and Bill Gilbert was hired as a part-time telecommunicator trainee at $13.00 per hour with no county benefits and a 12-month probationary period. Miller said current 911 budgets will cover the hires. He also said the county is exploring placing a communications tower at the 911 Center and asked for a commissioner to attend a meeting with the Airport Authority to discuss that option.
Miller raised a budget process concern: the OEM needs to purchase radios for statewide interoperability but currently lacks a specific equipment line item in the OEM budget. He said he spoke with Citizens Bank of West Virginia about restructuring the loan on the 911 building (switching from quarterly to monthly payments) to reduce interest costs; commissioners did not act on the loan terms at the meeting.
