"We will be trimming just over 1000 trees this year," Nick said, and described drought stress on mature trees, especially London plane trees, and the city's approach to monitoring and updating the tree inventory after major work or removals.
Commissioners raised questions about tree inventory updates and replacement cultivars; staff said they have had good early results with the Columbia cultivar of London plane and recommended trialing a diversity of cultivars where appropriate. The commission acknowledged private eucalyptus removals on Moraga were not city projects and that some private activity had occurred near the courtyard.
