Commission forms two‑member subcommittee to develop objective design standards for SB‑9 and multifamily projects

The planning commission voted Aug. 12 to form an ad hoc two‑member subcommittee to work with staff and the consultant team drafting objective design standards for small residential projects and to review existing multifamily objective standards. Chair Justin Zucker nominated Commissioners DeJodia and Ortiz for the subcommittee and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the subcommittee will meet monthly over an 8–9 month schedule while staff and the consultant prepare draft standards, with the aim of bringing formal recommendations to the full commission and then the council. The work will focus on objective standards for 1–4 unit residential buildings (to align with SB 9 processing), and on potential updates to multifamily and mixed‑use objective standards.
Commissioners noted the value of a small working group for detailed review and stated that the subcommittee would help move the project efficiently while keeping the full commission informed. The subcommittee membership will allow commissioners with architectural training to lead technical review and provide a consistent liaison to the consultant and staff.
