Board reviews updated high-school graduation policy to align with state requirements

Staff noted the policy now explicitly includes ethnic studies (a state requirement for the graduating class of 2029) and a semester of financial literacy (a state requirement for the graduating class of 2030/2031). Dolowich said the update also allows a superintendent or designee to grant exemptions in cases such as terminal illness "to ensure graduation" for vulnerable students.
Trustees discussed whether the district should formally adopt UC/CSU "a–g" course requirements as part of its graduation policy to promote college readiness. Staff agreed to draft sample "a–g" language and vet it with counselors and teachers before returning with recommendations at a subsequent meeting.
