Nancy, parks project staff, updated the commission on the Linda Park tot-lot equipment and replacement project, saying the site footprint is about 3,100 square feet and will replace the existing sand area with matting and new play equipment.
"The project site of about 3,100 square feet... we're replacing the sand with matting," Nancy said, and added staff will present three equipment proposals and evaluate ADA access from Linda Avenue to the site. Staff also said they are considering shade elements and are working to obtain budgetary numbers for those options.
Staff asked the commission to identify one park commissioner volunteer to meet with staff before the October 3 public outreach event to help narrow equipment options. The outreach will include in-person sessions and an online comment opportunity through October 6, after which staff will compile feedback and return to the commissions. Nancy said the team hopes to go out to bid in January and begin construction in spring, with the caveat that those dates depend on procurement and contract timelines.
Commissioners clarified the tot-lot age target (Nancy: "It's considered a tot lot, so that's up to 5 years") and asked about ADA access and linkage to nearby recreation areas. Nancy said staff are completing an ADA evaluation of the ramp entry and the matting area. The presentation emphasized creating as inclusive a play space as possible within a fixed footprint and budget.
The commission took no action on the item; it was presented for information and to solicit a volunteer to assist staff selection of equipment.
