Health department loses COVID-relief funds; BRIC grant and cybersecurity services also reduced

Finance staff told the committee that several federal funding lines have been reduced or withdrawn. "The health department was informed this last week that they will be losing about $60,000 in money that was coming to them for COVID relief," staff said, adding that the county had not yet spent some of the funds and that the loss will reduce departmental capacity to fund vaccination and outreach activities.
Staff also reported the BRIC (Building Resilient Infrastructure) grant funds for a flood-mitigation project were no longer available and that the county may be at risk for about $43,000 of unreimbursed staff time tied to the work; the county will proceed with much of the proposed work using existing staff but may not be reimbursed. Additionally, staff said certain federal cybersecurity threat- information services previously provided at no cost will be curtailed, and contracting for similar monitoring could add an estimated $8,000 in annual costs.
