Chair Jenn Crane and committee members reviewed Summer Nights of Canaan, held July 15–19, saying weather forced most Saturday events into Sunday and shifted attendance patterns. Organizers reported higher carnival sales on Wednesday through Friday but lower Saturday sales compared with last year; the parade and subsequent bed race remained heavily attended. "A phenomenal job was done by the team that made it happen this year," Kathy Keane said, praising volunteers and staff.
Committee members noted the carnival opened at 3 p.m. on its main day and that some events were moved to Sunday because of weather concerns; the NCVAC buffet breakfast and the parade were highlighted as particularly well attended. Chair Crane said only the fireworks had a formal rain date this year and recommended building additional rain dates into next year’s planning to avoid scrambling and last-minute changes.
The committee discussed promotion channels for the carnival, noting posters were likely being phased out in favor of social media; members asked for assistance removing posters this year. Budget implications were also raised: the carnival is the committee’s primary fundraiser and lower sales reduce the pool available for behind-the-scenes costs and free community programming. No formal action was taken; the committee will include rain-date contingencies in planning for 2027.
