The Village of Makanda Board of Trustees voted to approve a maintenance agreement for Sheppard Lane and Poplar Camp on an interim basis while a formal transfer document is prepared by the Illinois Department of Transportation and reviewed in Springfield. Trustee Wolff moved to approve the agreement, Trustee Allen seconded, and all trustees present at roll call voted yes; Trustee Pitcher was absent.
Ed Hoke, Makanda Township Road Commissioner, apologized to the board for beginning oil-and-chip work on Sheppard Lane on July 29 before presenting the agreement and provided the board with a draft maintenance agreement. President Tina Shingleton said she had discussed the possibility of permanently transferring a 0.30-mile section of Sheppard Lane to Makanda Township and 0.275 miles of Poplar Camp-South to the Village with IDOT contact Patrick Naas, who indicated a one-page document with signatures could be forwarded to Springfield. The board indicated it was in favor of proceeding and that a village resolution might be required once IDOT prepares the paperwork.
