At the Sept. 11 meeting staff explained HB 3144 and its implications for Mapleton. Lane told the board HB 3144 would allow non-home rule municipalities to impose a 1% grocery tax without a referendum and to levy sales-tax increases in 0.25% increments up to 1%, effective January 2026; trustees discussed which taxpayers would be affected.
After discussion the board agreed to impose the taxes under the bill's authority and directed staff to schedule a special meeting later in the month to finalize details. The minutes do not record a formal roll-call vote on the tax imposition at this session nor a specific special-meeting date.
