Council approves CDBG application and greenlights repairs for sinkholes in Municipal Lot #1

The Union City Borough Council unanimously approved submitting a Community Development Block Grant application to Erie County for up to $100,000 to cover part of the stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1. The motion to submit the application was made by Councilor Steadman and seconded by Councilor Osborn.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that he and Borough Manager Cindy Wells met with Solicitor Tim Wachter about sinkholes in Municipal Lot #1. The recommended plan is for Mansfield to fill the sinkhole, replace about 10 feet of pipe and install a new catch basin, followed by smoke and dye testing to identify further issues. The borough is awaiting paving quotes from JT Patching and Paving and Cross Paving to repave the catch-basin and affected areas; business owners and the UCVFD will be notified before testing is scheduled.
