Police chief: new hire nonresponsive; borough to continue search for one part-time officer

Police Chief David Pernice updated the council that the new hire approved at the prior meeting has not responded to contact attempts and "he is assuming he is no longer interested." Pernice said there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and that he would like to hire two part-time officers, though only one position was approved by council at this time. He said he will check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and will send out letters to candidates.
Council accepted the chief's recommendation to continue a search for a single part-time officer. No new hires were finalized at the Aug. 27 meeting.
