Police Chief David Pernice reviewed July reports and told Union City Borough Council that from June 1 through Aug. 13 the department handled 269 calls, an average of about 3.63 calls per day. He told the council some incidents—such as a domestic call cited in the report—can occupy an entire shift; he gave an example of a call that extended from about 8:50 P.M. to 2:00 A.M.
Chief Pernice said he and Officer Shelly attended an active-shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek Police Department and described it as beneficial. He also said the UC Community Foundation awarded funding for four tasers and for security cameras to cover another section of North Main Street.
