June sales tax receipts up 8.1%; county about halfway to budgeted sales-tax target

Daryl Tuttle, the county finance director (joining by Zoom), presented the sales-tax report for June: total receipts for the month were $8,462,000, a reported 8.14% increase over June 2024. He broke the figures down: municipalities received $11,982,000 (a 21.12% increase over last June), the county’s portion was about $4,760,000 (also reflecting an 8.14% increase), and the city of Ithaca’s June receipts were $1,720,000 (a 3.75% decrease). Tuttle cautioned that June figures are typically estimates and can be trued up during quarterly reconciliation.
Asked whether the figures reflect quarterly apportionment timing, Tuttle said the numbers submitted should be treated as estimates and staff will verify quarterly allocations with state data. The chair later stated that, overall for the year, city, county and municipalities are about 7% above last year in aggregate sales-tax receipts.
