The legislature unanimously approved two linked actions to support a proposed affordable-housing project in Varna. Housing and Economic Development Committee Chair Greg Mezey described a negative declaration for the Freeze Road Apartments environmental review and a subsequent disbursement of $100,000 from the Community Housing Development Fund (CHDF): $50,000 from county funds and $50,000 contributed by Dryden as an associate member.
Mezey said the project site is on the corner of Frieze Road in Varna and described the CHDF as a partnership that leverages county, city and Cornell funds plus IDA contributions to support affordable housing. "So it'll be $100,000 from the Community Housing Development Fund," Mezey said, and members praised the fund's success in leveraging state and federal money for local affordable-housing projects.
