The Tompkins County Legislature unanimously approved Resolution J on June 17 to appoint Jenny Sutcliffe as the county's Commissioner of Whole Health, with the appointment effective July 7, 2025.
Legislator Shauna Black, who chaired the interview committee, moved the resolution and praised Sutcliffe's experience and focus on health equity. "We chose an incredible candidate," Black said, noting the committee's thorough process. Sutcliffe, introduced at the meeting, told legislators she will prioritize "building trust," protecting and advancing whole‑health services, and supporting a resilient workforce. "I grew up in Tompkins County... this feels like a real homecoming," she said.
The vote was unanimous. Until Sutcliffe's start date the department will be led by interim director Jeremy Porter. The appointment was moved and seconded on the floor and no executive-session employment details were disclosed during the public vote.
