The Village of Mapleton board scheduled a special meeting for Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. to make a formal motion on a proposed two-year extension of the village's garbage contract and to consider appointing Terry Kauffman as a part-time clerk. The Nov. 13 minutes record that GFL has purchased Elmwood G & O and is now the village’s garbage contractor; route information was corrected after the transfer.
At the Nov. 13 meeting a board member said the village is currently among the lowest-cost service providers in the area and recommended signing a two-year extension to keep rates low, warning that rates could increase to more than $20 if an extension is not signed. The board agreed to hold the special meeting to take the formal action.
