The Dorset Select Board on July 21 approved draft ballot language asking voters whether the town may convey up to 30 acres of its 308-acre parcel at Raptor Lane to support up to 35 housing units.
Rob Gaiotti, the town manager, told the board that nearly 250 people have completed the housing survey and that data compilation will begin after an extended deadline of Aug. 12. He noted the deadline for including the town article on the general election ballot is Aug. 3. The board approved the voting language — subject to attorney review — with a 3-0 vote.
The ballot question the board approved reads: "Shall the voters authorize the conveyance of up to 30 acres (out of the 308 acre parcel) of Town owned land at Raptor Lane to support up to 35 units of housing?"
Supporters on the board characterized the step as necessary to advance feasibility and implementation work already under way, including recent site visits and studies. The motion to approve the language was moved by Frank Parent and seconded by Henry Chandler; the vote was recorded as 3-0.
Next steps include attorney review of the language and finalization for the ballot by Aug. 3. The town will continue compiling survey responses through Aug. 12 to inform design and outreach.
