Resident presents video evidence alleging Athens employee posted garage gate code; commissioners ask for contractor accountability

Ed Hohman addressed the commission with a recorded incident he said shows an Athens employee entering and then writing a garage gate code on a Crescent Heights building wall. Hohman said the city's response so far has been inadequate and urged immediate enforcement action against the contractor where appropriate.
Hohman asked the commission to ask the sheriff's department to comment on a WeHo online article showing the footage and to clarify what residents should expect if they call now. He urged three actions: (1) hold Athens accountable under its contract if employees are defacing property and exposing codes; (2) fix reporting pathways so residents are not bounced between departments; and (3) implement direct public outreach explaining how to spot and report exposed codes. City staff said they had issued press releases and a rent-stabilization newsletter entry and were coordinating with the sheriff and contracted vendors; they asked residents to remove exposed codes when safe and to email safety@weho.org with information tied to city-contracted vendors so the city can take action.
